Paediatrics

Clinical assessment and diagnosis of children and young people up to 18yo.

Musculoskeletal Paediatrics

Youth Hockey Match

An assessment of Paediatric Musculoskeletal conditions.

A paediatric musculoskeletal physiotherapy assessment is a comprehensive evaluation of your child's movement, posture, strength, flexibility, coordination, and physical function. It is designed to identify the cause of pain, injury, or movement difficulties affecting muscles, joints, bones, ligaments, or tendons.

During the assessment, the physiotherapist will take a detailed history of your child's symptoms, medical background, activity levels, and goals. They will then perform an age-appropriate physical examination, which may include observing movement patterns, assessing joint range of motion, muscle strength, balance, gait (walking and running), and functional activities.

Following the assessment, you will receive a clear explanation of the findings, recommendations for management, and an individualised treatment plan to support your child's recovery, and participation in everyday activities, sport, and play.

Developmental Paediatrics

An assessment of development in babies and children, where there are concerns around delay or atypical progress.

Clinical assessment of gross and fine motor skills, muscle strength and length, balance and co-ordination, and ability to engage in age appropriate functional activities, considering typical developmental milestones. The assessment helps identify any delays, difficulties, or differences in motor development and provides a clear understanding of your child's individual needs.

During the assessment, the physiotherapist will gather information about your child's medical and developmental history, observe how they move and play, and assess skills such as:

  • Gross motor development (rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, running, jumping)

  • Balance and coordination

  • Strength and muscle tone

  • Posture and movement patterns

  • Mobility and functional independence

  • Participation in daily activities, school, and play

Assessments are tailored to your child's age, abilities, and goals, and are conducted in a supportive, child-centred environment. Following the assessment, families receive feedback, recommendations, and a personalised treatment plan where appropriate. This may include physiotherapy intervention, home exercise programmes, equipment recommendations, or referral to other services if needed.

Our aim is to help every child reach their full potential by supporting their physical development, confidence, and participation in everyday activities.
