Psychologist Session

Discussion

When you first visit us, we will enquire about the history of your issue including asking about how the symptoms started, the location of your symptoms, what makes things better or worse, how has it impacted your function and what activities are important to you. We ask various questions to help diagnose what the issue may be which will also guide us on what may or may not need to be assessed physically. You will be asked about your medical history, any ongoing medical conditions which you may feel irrelevant but may be linked to your symptoms. Your physiotherapist will also need to know about what activities you perform on a typical day, what movements you regularly perform and if there have been any changes in these.

Physiotherapy

Examination

During your initial consultation your physiotherapist will perform a physical examination to establish what level of function you have. This may involve testing specific structures that could be contributing to your symptoms and may involve provoking pain which is a normal and commonly expected side effect of an assessment, especially when a painful/damaged structure has been isolated with some of the specialised tests we can perform. We recommend that you wear suitable clothing which allows you to move freely.

Personalised Treatment and Management Plan

Upon completion of your assessment, you will be given an explanation as to the cause of your symptoms with a clear and understandable explanation of the problems and structures. Your physiotherapist will then work with you to come up with a personalised treatment and management plan. This may include hands-on treatment, Shockwave therapy or Ultrasound to assist your recovery along with self-management advice and home exercises. This will empower you with the skills and knowledge to effectively control and reduce your symptoms by implementing self-help strategies and work towards achieving full function.

You will be given time to ask any questions you may have.
