Post Surgical Treatment
Physiotherapy after surgery can help you regain mobility, function, reduce pain and swelling and return to normal activities. We can see you in clinic or at home depending on your functional ability and we aim to help you to adjust and restore normal movement patterns following minor or major surgery. Recovery following surgery can often be a challenging journey but we are here to support you long the way.
-
Following your surgery your physiotherapist will have a discussion with you around what surgery you have had and what your function was like prior
-
They will carry out an assessment to understand your physical problems and limitations. They will establish personal goals and put a treatment plan in place
-
Our aim is to help you reduce swelling, regain full range of movement in your joints, strengthen your muscles, and help restore normal movement
-
There are a range of treatment techniques that can be used which can be hands on such as massage to help break down scar tissue and to encourage circulation to the healing area or hands off treatment including personalised exercises to help improve flexibility, strength, and balance

They will teach you how to wean off your walking aids (if applicable) and teach you how to move up and down stairs correctly
